PSYCHOPOMP

Two forces · one truth. A 2D transformation-platformer in the Goose mythos.

The game

A guide of souls through the dark.

psychopomp (n.) — in myth, a guide of souls through the dark: the goose, the ferryman, the one who crosses thresholds.

Psychopomp is a love letter to SEGA's Kid Chameleon (1992), reforged in the Goose duality mythology. You are the Goose — ordinary until it decides to defend what matters. Hit blocks, find Sigil masks, and transform into mythic heroes drawn from the dualities: Watcher & Void, Dream & Nightmare, Silence & Noise, Reality & Illusion, Man & Beast.

Masks are verbs, not skins — see, erase, float, dread, hush, shatter, build, deceive, reach, hunt. Each transformation changes what you can do, and every level is a threshold you cross by wearing the right (or unexpected) face. The mask is your armor and your clock: a hit knocks it off, and bare-faced, one hit ends the run.

The aesthetic is Illuminated Pixel — tarot and occult ceremony over 8/16-bit arcade play. Darker and more mythic than Mario, more deliberate than Sonic. Slightly disturbed, yet soothing.

The demo

The Tiring Yard.

A mask try-out arena off the Hundred Steps. Every mask is waiting in the Yard, the Sigil meter is pinned open, and the beasts spar back. This is an early prototype — invited witnesses only.

The Yard opens only for those given the words. Controls: arrows move, Space jumps, Z is the mask power, X spends the Sigil, R respawns.
